After all the comments from my Less is More friends I decided to have another go, and I have to say, Mandi and Chrissie, you were right!
Now, being me I couldn't manage it first time without a smudge or two which I hid with sponged mountains at the bottom! I had to augment the branch a bit too. After a good wash and cleaning/ tidying up my workspace I managed to come up with this...
The sun is better, the branch and bird placement look better. I am still itching to add something else, but resisting the temptation!

WOW!!
Absolutely stunning! for me the one without the mountains is breathtaking, but, you've made a super job of them too!
Fantastic entry Sally, thanks so much for having a second attempt. i always say ok for me/us to sit here and say how we think it could have been done, you have to do it! It's great you can see it too and love it
Well done you!

great that you went for a second card...just lovely. That white space gives the bird all the attention. You could add a single word nut the image alone is just great.

Yes, yes, yes!
You star you!
These are fabulous... I love them both... and what it wonderful is that you
a) went and tried again
b) made such a fabulous job
c) think they look better yourself!
I really appreciate you taking on board the comments in the manner in which they are intended ... as advice or a second opinion.
Fabulous, fabulous cards!

Oh wow. Beautiful cards. I like them all including the first one! x
I love your style and think your work is to be admired and aspired to. The reworked top card is excellent and yep the bird does look fab in front of the sun. Not so sure about the bottom on with just the bird on a branch and the sun separated and nothing else it is, to my mind, incomplete. But I could not do anything like this to save my life so what do i now LOL
Have fun at the week-end XOXO Zoe
the first one was lovely, but this one is stunning.
like them....but I hope you take this as just 'my thought/opinion' - the second one 'might' look interesting with a flock of birds flying across the sun(small image as to look in the distance) or do the 2nd card on a smaller card blank (I think its called a C6) but still fab cards.
Both great but I prefer the 2nd one too.

Just beautiful - stunning.

More great cards, love these. Jx
I love the way you've revisited your original idea, Sally. For me the one with the mountains has the edge but then I have problems being minimal. The most important thing is which one you like best. I think if someone received any one of them they'd be thrilled.

mmmm, wonderful cards!

Wow Sally... you are good!!! I really like both of them. I'm like you, sometimes I think a card needs just something more. The first one is perfect, love the mountains. On the second one, My first thought was a small sentiment tucked close by the bird somewhere, or maybe Paula's suggestion.
Even so, how wonder to go back and tackle it again. Fabulous cards, all of them.
Carole
You've done a fab job with both cards! My personal gave is the second one!
OH! I love this card, excellent

Hello there, brilliant cards love both, they are just great:0) xxx
Absolutely outstanding card!
Oh wow, that is just gorgeous!!
These are both beautiful Sally. I like the first one best because I think your mountains are perfect, but the more I look at the second one the more I like the simplicity of it. This CAS sure looks difficult! lol x
For me the one with the mountains is absolutely perfect! In your previous card, the red flowers and the red sponged edges of the card were competing with the sun. In this one, the sun gets the spotlight but the mountains balance out the DL size card.
These are both absolutely fantastic
