January Birthdays

There are a few Birthdays hot on the heels of new year in our family, so as soon as Boxing Day is over I start making cards for them. My MIL will be 86 on 4th January, and for her card I decided to do one of those half aperture swinging card things (If you know the proper name please let me know!). She is very fond of Pansy's and butterflies, so this year I've used a Hero arts butterfly, coloured with promarkers. There is a little bit of DP (MME) behind the butterfly and lots of stamping and distressing with wild Honey Distress Ink. The music background is a very old stamp from Stamporium, and the ornate corner is from Elusive Images.
My Dad also asked me to make a card for his dear friend Eric who is 80 on the 4th. They used to teach together and every Easter holiday they would disappear (along with another friend, John) for a couple of days up to the Lake District to plan the annual school camp. If I'd known a bit sooner I would've bought a camper van stamp for this one, as that is what Eric drove for many years. Anyway, the main request for this card was to have mountains on it, so what better excuse to get the brayer out!
The only stamp on this one is the 'spruce scape' from Clarity stamps.  I'll be back tomorrow with my Brother's birthday card (7th January) and a few others I've been playing with.
Steve was back at work today, so Meg and I decided we would go out for a while. We had tea and cake at Derby garden centre (very nice), a quick look in craft central there and then back to IKEA and Decathlon. What possessed me to go anywhere near IKEA? It didn't seem that busy, but it took us 45 minutes to escape from the car park! Although I guess he will never read it, I'd like to thank the bloke that let me into the queue in front of him. Might still have been there otherwise!

Hi Sally

Two great creations, love the brayering but think the wings steal the show.

Gorgeous cards Sally. I love the fir stamp on the second card - great brayering too, and the way you have used the corners on the first one is brilliant.

Best wishes for 2011 to you and your family.

Oh, wow, the butterfly card is gorgeous! Love it! As Clare, says, great use of the corner stamp. And the mountains are very majestic too. If you'd known sooner, you could have borrowed my camper van stamp, but I'm sure Eric will love the mountains. I've got some January birthdays to make for as well, and have just cleared my desk in readiness.... xx

Hi Sal

I love it when I comment after other people as it intrigues me as to what elements other blog pals focus on.

For me I just love that music background .. I love what you have done with it. The butterfly is gorgeous too.

I know the garden centre/craft shop you mean .. .. it was much improved the last time hubby took me over there.

There are a few January birthdays looming for me too. Oh it all go!!! LOL!!!

Hope you are having a lovely break and all the best for 2011.

Love Jules xx

Only the best people have January birthdays!!!!!!! Only kidding of course!!!!!
These cards are gorgeous Sally. I love the music and ornate background on the first one and that spruce scape stamp has to be amongst my favourites. It makes a perfect male card doesn't it.
You were brave venturing into Ikea, I've only been once at Xmas and never again, there are limits!!!
We have done a bit of craft shopping today at our local garden centre. All xmas stuff half price so a few bargains to be had!!!!
Have a great weekend.

These cards are both stunning Sally. I love the colour and your use of the EI corner stamp on the first one. I love that swing cut technique too.

The mountains on the second card are awesome (I still can't get to grips with brayering) and I'm positive your Dad's friend is going to love his card. Who wouldn't ?

Have a wonderful New Year weekend Sally.
