Creative in the Kitchen

Well, the mojo is still a bit lacking, so I've stopped looking at the craft table and made a few cakes. This first lot I made last week, and they are Peach and Basil Muffins. I know it sounds a bit odd, but the flavours work brilliantly together. It is a great way to use up those peaches and nectarines that go from solid to overripe in a few hours, too!
This weekend they look a bit less healthy. First up we have the Mocha Cupcake...
That is a mini chocolate finger on the top. Now I'm normally not thrilled by chocolate cake, but with the light coffee frosting I found them very tasty! I need to have another go at the frosting, as although it tasted great it looked a bit dodgy! Finally we have the apple and cinnamon cupcake...

This one has a lovely light golden sponge made with light brown sugar, cinnamon, and grated apples from our Bramley apple tree in the garden. It is topped with honey and cinnamon flavoured frosting.
I've finished off the afternoon by watching Barbara Gray, and I feel a few ideas coming on now! Hopefully I'll be back with a card or two before too long. Thanks for looking (Wish you could smell them too!)

These look yummy Sally so it's just as well I'm about to go off and do tea lol.
I have to say that chocolate sponge with coffee buttercream is a family favourite here and the other way round isn't half as nice!
I've also been baking - apple and ginger cake in my case.
Hope you're well and coping with the return to school.
Hugs, Fliss xx

Ooh, I'm positively starving now that I've read this, lol - those apple and cinnamon cakes look scrummy. My mouth is watering :-) Don't know what's wrong with the coffee buttercream - it adds to the charm and if they taste good, that's all that matters? I love losing myself in a bit of baking, too but it was much better when the kids were younger and would eat them all very quickly, leaving me to steal some to take to my Dad. We take these times so much for granted. Enjoy!

Wow Sally - these cakes look totally scrumptious! (I REALLY feel hungry now).
Hope you enjoyed watching Barbara Gray - she is so inspirational isn't she. I like to record her programmes, as I have a long way to go yet in the brayering department!

Hope all is well with you and yours - hugs, Sylvia xxx

I always visit you when I'm hungry, Sal, these look totally scrumptious. You've really got cupcakes off to a fine art. I have good intentions to try them, even bought a book, but as yet no cupcakes have graced our kitchen.
I feel like I could almost stick my finger in that icing and have a good taste!!
Barbara was great at the weekend wasn't she? Hope you have been feeling a bit more crafty this week.
hugs Lisax
